The Emory University women's basketball program continues dominating the competition taking its seventh straight victory. The Eagles were led by 19 points from freshman
Tatum Olson in the 75-48 victory over the LaGrange College Panthers on Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.
Despite being outscored in two quarters, the Eagles were able to maintain the lead from the first five minutes of the matchup and outshot the Panthers from beyond the arc 30.4% to 8.3%. The icing on the cake came from a 23-point fourth quarter with Emory shooting 57.1% from the field.
LaGrange scored first in the game but a three pointer from Olson reclaimed the lead for the Eagles for the rest of the matchup. Olson and classmate
Mia Strazza then pushed Emory to a 10-4 lead with exactly six minutes on the clock before junior
Mary Mullinax answered with six points of her own in the final four minutes helping the Eagles to a 25-6 point lead at the end of the first.
Emory was outscored 20-16 in the second with seven of those points coming from free throws. Olson also added seven points to her total and a layup from senior
Lily Kennedy ended the scoring for the Eagles in the first half. Despite being outscored, Emory carried a 41-26 lead into the locker room at the break.
Both teams were quiet in the third quarter with the Panthers going on a slight 14-11 run. The Eagles were taking advantage of points in the paint scoring eight of the 11 points on layups and capitalized on a three from junior
Riley Allen to end the third quarter.
The offense and defense for Emory came out swinging again in the fourth quarter holding LaGrange to just eight points while scoring 23 points to seal the win. Kennedy and Allen both opened the quarter with threes before a jumper from Olson gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game thus far. The gap continued to widen with Emory finishing with a 12-3 run in the final five minutes to clinch the win.
The Eagles will return to the court on Saturday, December 6
th at 2:00 PM to face the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
