Emory University goalkeepers Sophia Garcia and Geoffrey Halpern swept University Athletic Association Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for their performances on Saturday, November 1 as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Garcia made a season-high six saves on Saturday as the No. 2 ranked women's soccer team defeated No. 5 ranked Case Western Reserve University Spartans, 1-0, in Cleveland. Garcia made four of her six stops in the second half to preserve her ninth individual clean sheet of the year.
In the men's contest, Halpern picked up his fifth clean sheet of the season as he made three saves Saturday as the No. 4 ranked Eagles knocked off CWRU, 1-0, for the team's second UAA win of the season.
This marks Garcia's fifth weekly honor of her career and third this season. For Halpern, this is his first AOW award as a member of the Eagles.
Both soccer teams will head to Rochester, New York this Saturday for the regular season finales against University of Rochester.
