Mullinax, Olson Combine for 38 Points in Emory’s Defeat of Dickinson

The Emory University women's basketball team added another tally to the win column on Sunday afternoon defeating the Dickinson College Red Devils, 82-55, in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season and were led by junior Mary Mullinax and freshman Tatum Olson who each posted a career-high 19 points in the win. Fellow junior Riley Allen followed with 10 points of her own and posted five rebounds in the win.
 
Emory was able to outshoot Dickinson from inside the arc with a 47.8 field goal percent but the Red Devils took charge shooting 77.8 percent in free throws. The Eagles were also able to take advantage of points in the paint scoring 48 compared to Dickinson's 24. Emory heavily outscored the Red Devils in each quarter except the fourth falling 21-20 in the 10 minutes.
 
The lead changed three times in the first four minutes of the game with a three pointer from freshman Mia Strazza reclaiming the lead for the Eagles at the 6:08 mark. Allen answered with five more points pushing Emory to its biggest lead thus far. The Red Devils finished the quarter with a 6-2 run falling to a 12-10 deficit following the first 10 minutes of play.
 
Dickinson was able to take back the lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter but layups from junior Caroline Connelly and Mullinax pulled the lead back on the Eagles' side. After a few scoreless minutes from Emory, the Red Devils tied the game at 20 apiece on a three pointer but Olson answered with one of her own. The Eagles were able to add 11 more points to their score before the end of the half holding a 10-point lead heading into the locker room.
 
Emory's offense exploded in the third quarter outscoring Dickinson 28-10. The program scored 12 points in the first five minutes of the quarter while the Red Devils were scoreless until the 6:25 mark. Olson, Mullinax and junior Emma Starr combined for 14 points in the final five minutes of the third with five coming from free throws.
 
The Red Devils were able to outscore Emory in the fourth quarter shooting 57.1 percent from beyond the arc in the final 10 minutes alone. Mullinax dominated the offense for the Eagles in the first five minutes scoring six points alone while Olson added two more points to her total. Dickinson continued their three-point reign outscoring Emory 12-11 in the final five minutes but the effort wasn't enough and the Eagles clinched the game with an 82-55 final.
 
Emory will return to the Woodruff P.E. Center on Sunday, November 23 to face Rhodes College at 1:00 PM.
