No. 2 Men's Soccer Drops Final Home Match to No. 3 WashU, 1-0

The Eagles outshot the Bears 15-11 to conclude the home season.

The No. 2 ranked Emory University men's soccer team concluded its home season Sunday morning, dropping the match against No. 3 WashU 1-0. This puts the Eagles at 1-1-3 in conference play and 11-1-3 overall.

It was a hard-fought contest on both ends as Emory out-shot the Bears 15-11 and both teams recorded four shots on goal in the match. Jack Burgess, Owen Clark and Ignacio Cubbedu each put up four shots and Burgess led the Eagles with two shots on goal.

The Eagles got those shots up early, with junior Lorenzo Avalos and Cubbedu recording shots in the second and third minute respectively.

It was a tight match until the lone goal of the game was scored by WashU's Daniel Kochen in the 25th minute. The rest of the half saw great defense from the Eagles highlighted by a great save by junior Geoffrey Halpern in the 41st minute.

The second half mirrored the first as Clark and Burgess each registered shots in the 53rd minute to get things rolling for the Eagles. From then on it was a defensive battle highlighted by two more saves from Halpern in the 73rd and 76th minutes.

The second half remained scoreless despite the Eagles' nine shot attempts on the half and Burgess' last-ditch shot attempt in the final seconds and the Bears held the Eagles to a 1-0 score in a tough conference matchup.

The Eagles will be back on the pitch next Saturday as they take on Case Western Reserve on the road in an 11 a.m. kickoff.
