The No. 2 ranked Emory University men's soccer team celebrated its senior night on Friday as the Eagles played to a 1-1 draw with No. 12 University of Chicago in front of a standing room only crowd at the WoodPEC in Atlanta. Prior to the start of the match the Eagles honored their 10-member graduating class with a special on-field ceremony.
The Eagles were the early aggressors, having a 7-1 shot advantage through the first half and putting four shots on frame. Emory had the first six shots on the evening with senior Adeyemi Oni supplying the two best chances early on with his opportunities in the 7th and 20th minutes.
Despite the early pressure, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the late moments of the contest.
The Maroons struck first following a free kick chance in the 72nd minute. UC's Edward Wu sent a perfect pass 40 yards into the box where he found the foot of Louis Bock who finished with the redirect.
Two minutes later, the Eagles had a strong opportunity when junior Nick Carrano delivered a strike from 25 yards out but drilled the crossbar. However, the Eagles would not be deterred as junior Lorenzo Avalos supplied the equalizer minutes later. A free kick from Jack Burgess at midfield carries into the box, deflecting off two bodies prior to Avalos burying the close-ranging header from inside the six.
Both teams had a pair of chances over the final eight minutes including two on target attempts by Oni and Carrano but neither side could find the game-winner.
For the evening, the Eagles led 16-6 in total shots as well as 10-1 in corner kicks. Oni finished with the team lead with five shots with three being on frame.
Emory looks to close out its final home weekend of the regular season on Sunday when No. 3 ranked WashU visits the WoodPEC in a 11:00 AM kickoff.
