Six Emory University Eagles were honored Monday afternoon by being named University Athletic Association for their athletic performances during the week of October 13-19.
Sophomore Ruilin Feng was crowned the ITA Cup Division III singles national champion on Sunday after he won four matches across four days at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia. Feng defeated his first three opponents from Whitman, Bowdoin and Denison in straight sets before toppling the reigning NCAA national champion, Advik Mareedu, from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in three sets in the championship match. Feng is the fourth player in program history to win the ITA DIII singles title and the first since 2016.
Freshman Matthew Johnstone teamed with sophomore Ajay Kartik to capture the ITA Division III doubles national championship at the ITA Cup this past weekend as Emory swept both ITA national championships. Johnstone & Kartik needed three sets to win three of the four matches across four days including a three-set thriller to defeat CMS in the championship match. They are the third doubles team in program history to win the ITA DIII title.
Junior Carys Code helped the women's golf team to a landslide victory, a 21-stroke win, at the UC-Santa Cruz Invitational, also known as the Hollins Cup, on Tuesday afternoon. Code picked up an individual tournament win on Tuesday afternoon shooting a two-day score of 149 (+5). After shooting par on Sunday in the opening round, she opened with a +3 on the front nine with six pars and three bogeys before shooting two-over on the back nine. Code opened the 10th hole with a birdie and finished with five pars to end her day.
Freshman Sophia Asiain netted her first career brace as she led the No. 1 ranked women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over No. 25 NYU at home on Saturday. Asiain scored the Eagles' first two goals of the game with both scores coming within the first 12 minutes of the contest. Asiain finished second on the team in total shots, collecting four attempts in the win.
Senior Adeyemi Oni scored twice as the No. 3 ranked men's soccer team defeated NYU, 6-3, on Saturday for the team's first UAA win of the year. Oni's brace came in first half of the comeback win and he finished with a team-high five shots including four on goal.
