JT Rattigan Spins Shutout as Baseball Defeats Brandeis, 10-0, in Series Opener

Box Score

Freshman JT Rattigan was in complete control Friday afternoon, spinning seven shutout innings as the Emory Eagles defeated the Brandeis Judges, 10-0 in seven innings, in the first game of the four-game baseball series at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Rattigan needed just 93 pitches to complete his seven frames as he faced just five over the minimum. All five hits he surrendered were singles and he struck out four to record his team-leading seventh win of the campaign.

The Eagles scored in every inning except the sixth to improve to 21-14-1 and 7-5-1 inside the UAA. The Judges fall to 5-28 overall and 0-13 in conference play. Junior Matthew Sicoli was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while junior Jack Halloran and freshman Aidan Conley each had two RBI.

One of Brandeis' five errors in the game lead to three unearned runs as Emory opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. Conley came through with the big hit in the frame, driving home two with a single through the right side.

A sac fly from senior Jacob Grossman made it 4-0 in the second before the Eagles struck for three more runs in the third. A run-scoring double from Halloran plated the team's fifth run prior to graduate student Nick Wilson and freshman Trevor McAndrews making it 7-0 with run-scoring outs.

The Eagles saw single runs come home in the fourth and fifth innings before sophomore Adam Geller scored the game-winning run in the seventh as he scored on a wild pitch.

Emory, now winners of 35 straight games over the Judges, look to extend the streak on Saturday with a doubleheader getting underway at 12:00 PM. Prior to game one of the twinbill, the Eagles will honor their eight-member senior class with a special on-field ceremony starting at 11:40 AM.
