Box Score The Emory University baseball team dropped a road contest to LaGrange College Tuesday night at Williamson Field in LaGrange, Georgia.
The Emory bats continued their momentum from the weekend, scoring seven runs through the opening four frames. However, four Panther relievers shut down the Eagles' offense over the final five innings, allowing LaGrange to score 10 unanswered runs to win 11-7 in the first of two meetings between the two programs in seven days.
Junior Blake Dincman highlighted the Emory offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and hit his second home run of the season. Freshman Jake Lawson added a 2-for-4 night with one RBI and senior Steven Hunt reached base four times with four walks and added one RBI.
Hunt drew a bases loaded walk to score Emory's first run in the opening inning before Lawson added a run-scoring single in the second. Senior Jacob Grossman provided an RBI double to plate Hunt in the third, giving Emory a 3-1 lead. The fourth was a big frame for the Eagle offense with junior Jack Halloran picking up his team-leading 20th RBI prior to Dincman depositing a three-run blast over the left field fence later in the inning.
The 7-1 lead was short-lived however, as LaGrange responded with six runs in their half of the fourth to even the game at 7-7. The Panthers would take the lead with two more runs in the fifth to move ahead 9-7.
Trailing 10-7 in the eighth inning, the Eagles brought the tying run to plate as Dincman had a one-out single and sophomore Adrien Armstrong worked a pinch-hit walk four batters later. Freshman Trevor McAndrews stepped to the plate looking to do damage but was sent down on strikes to end the final Emory threat of the evening.
The Eagles will begin a three-game series with Covenant on Friday and Saturday before getting another crack at the Panthers next Tuesday, March 5 at Chappell Park.
