Women’s Basketball Opens Trip to Memphis with Win over Rhodes

The Emory University women's basketball program opened its road trip to Memphis with a 74-46 victory over the Rhodes College Lynx on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season with the win and pick up their third win on the road. Senior Morgan Laudick led the Eagles offensively with 14 points and three assists while fellow senior Daniella Aronsky followed with 12 points.
 
Emory was able to shoot out the Lynx 43.9% to 30.4% from the field while the Eagles landed eight three pointers on the day compared to Rhodes' four three pointers. Both teams landed eight free throws with Emory making 10 attempts and Rhodes making 11 attempts.
 
The Lynx opened the game with a 4-0 start before the Eagles fought back to a 15-6 lead with 5:12 remaining on the clock. Aronsky and junior Lily Kennedy scored five more points for Emory before sophomore Alexandra Loucopoulos ended the first quarter with a jump shot to give the Eagles a 22-15 lead after the first.
 
Laudick and Loucopoulos started the second quarter for Emory helping the team to a 17 point lead in the first three minutes of the quarter. The Eagles were held scoreless until the last two minutes of the quarter with Rhodes fighting back toa 35-21 deficit. Sophomore Emma Starr landed a tip-in in the last 33 seconds to take a 37-21 lead into the locker room.
 
The Eagles opened the third quarter with six points while the Lynx continued to try to cut further into Emory's lead. A jumper from Kennedy gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 53-29 with 3:45 left on the clock in the third quarter. Rhodes finished the third quarter with a 9-5 run cutting into Emory's lead 58-38 after the third quarter.
 
Emory continued their dominance in the fourth quarter with graduate student Hanna Malik hitting a three pointer with 3:41 left in the game to hold a 70-41 lead. Once again, the Lynx finished the quarter outscoring the Eagles with a 5-4 run to finish the fourth but the effort wasn't enough and Emory took the matchup, 74-46.
 
The two teams will face off again tomorrow, December 1 at 3:00 PM in Memphis, Tennessee.
