The Emory University women's basketball program added another win to the column on Sunday afternoon defeating the Oberlin College Yeowomen by a score of 60-28.
The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season after finishing the Emory Tip Off Classic and the 28 points allowed ranks 10
th in the record books in points allowed. Three Eagles finished the day with 11 points while the team out-shot the Yeowomen in field goals (45.3%).
The first quarter got off to a slow start for both teams with the Eagles holding a slight 7-4 lead with 5:54 on the clock thanks to five points from senior
Morgan Laudick. The lead changed four more times throughout the first quarter with graduate students
Hanna Malik and
McKenzi Carter helping Emory to a 13-11 advantage after the first.
Junior
Katherine Martini opened the second quarter with back-to-back layups giving Emory a six-point lead. Oberlin College fought their way back to a 17-17 tie with 5:16 left on the clock before sophomore
Alexandra Loucopoulos later notched six straight points to help the Eagles to a 28-19 advantage heading into the locker room.
Emory dominated the third quarter holding Oberlin College to just three points including just one free throw. Teammates
Mary Mullinax and
Daniella Aronsky went on a scoring run followed by points from Laudick and teammate
Katherine Martini gave the Eagles their biggest lead yet at 38-20. It didn't last long though as Emory continued a scoring run holding a 43-22 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was another big scoring run for the Eagles as the Yeowomen were held to just six points in the quarter. A few different Eagles saw time in the fourth quarter with freshman
Sydney Cummings and senior
Erin Martin finishing the quarter for Emory with four points helping clinch the 60-28 win.
Emory will be back on the road on Saturday, November 23 to face Belhaven University at 4:00 PM and on Sunday, November 24 to face Millsaps College with both games slated to be played in Jackson, Mississippi.
