Emory Baseball Rallies with Five-Run Eighth for Second Consecutive Come-From-Behind Win

Box Score

A five-run eighth inning, capped off by a go-ahead three-run home run by sophomore Christopher Stern, carried the Emory University Baseball team to its second consecutive come-from-behind victory as the Eagles defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology, 8-5, Friday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Senior Nick Chambers delivered the game-tying hit earlier in the eighth, driving in both senior Danny Kerning and sophomore Richard Brereton with a single to right field. Following a Chambers steal of second and a Jackson Grayson hit-by-pitch, Stern crushed a 0-1 offering by Joseph Deitz over the left field fence to give the Eagles the lead for good.

Chambers finished the afternoon 2-for-5 with a game-high four RBI and two stolen bases with Stern adding a double to go 2-for-4. Freshman Jack Rubenstein recorded three hits in a 3-for-4 effort to pace both ball clubs.

Junior Sam Brzowski earned his first career decision in the game, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two and did not allow a hit. Freshman Christian Bradley notched his first career save as he came on to retire Patrick Rood on called strikes for the final out of the game.

The Eagles return to the diamond on Saturday to face Middlebury College in the first of a two-game set at Chappell Park, beginning at 2:00 PM.
