Emory Baseball Concludes Four-Game Sweep of Brandeis

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Emory University Baseball program completed the weekend sweep over University Athletic Association foe Brandeis University, taking the final two games from the Judges on Sunday afternoon in Boston, MA. Both games were of the seven-inning variety and were played on the campus of UMass-Boston.

Game One – Emory 10, Brandeis 0

Senior Luke Emmett and sophomore Charlie Redovian combined for the six-hit shutout as the Eagles held Brandeis scoreless for the third consecutive contest.

The shutout marked just the second time in program history that an Emory team registered three straight shutouts, joining only the 1996 club to accomplish the feat. The shutout was also the seventh of the season for the Eagles, tying the school record for most in a single season, set back in both 1994 and 1995.

Emmett pitched the first six innings, allowing five hits and one walk to record his fourth win of the season. He struck out four Judges in the outing. Redovian closed it out in the seventh, giving up a hit and walk but escaped with no runners crossing the plate.

Senior Jeff Ronpirin carried the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples and a game-high three runs batted in. Classmates Brian Hernandez and Wilson Morgan each drove in a pair of runs to help carry the offense.

Game Two – Emory 3, Brandeis 2

Brandeis snapped Emory's 22-inning consecutive scoreless streak in game two, plating a first inning run off junior Rhett Stuart.

The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth when junior Bubby Terp connected for a two-run home run over the left field fence to put the Eagles in front. The lead was short lived as Brandeis answered in the bottom half of the frame with a run off sophomore Mack Wilkins.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the seventh, Morgan came through with two-out single to center bringing home the eventual winning run in Ronpirin.

Senior Kyle Monk retired the side in order in the seventh to help Emory clinch its fourth straight win. Monk pitched the final 1.1 innings in the game, collecting his team-leading seventh win of the season. He gave up one hit to go along with one strikeout.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday night in the final regular season away game of the year against Oglethorpe University. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
