The Emory University Baseball team dropped a twin bill at Washington University Saturday afternoon in University Athletic Association action. With the two losses, the Eagles fall to 19-10 overall and 2-5 in UAA games while WashU improves to 15-5 and 3-0 in conference play.

A four-run eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie as the Bears took game one of the double dip by a 6-2 margin. Senior Jackson Weeg struck out 10 batters in the game, moving him into second place all-time in Emory history with 283 strikeouts. He now sits just 31 shy of tying the program record of 314 set by Mike Garvis (1994-97).

In game two, the Eagles fell behind 3-0 after one inning and were unable to recover as WashU went on to win 5-2 to sweep the doubleheader.

Game One – Washington 6, Emory 2

After being held scoreless on Friday afternoon, the Eagles quickly struck first to begin the afternoon as senior Jeff Ronpirin collected a RBI groundout in the top of the first to give Emory a 1-0 lead.

The Bears countered with a pair of unearned runs with two outs in the fourth inning off Weeg. The Eagles tied the score in the sixth inning as sophomore David Draper had a two-out RBI single, scoring junior Bubby Terp.

With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, Washington plated four runs to pick up the victory. Conor O'Hara drove in the go-ahead run with a run-scoring single before the Bears added a run on a bases-loaded walk off senior Kyle Monk. A costly fielding error by senior Wilson Morgan allowed two more runs to cross the plate to provide the 6-2 final.

Weeg fell to 3-5 on the year as he allowed three runs (1 ER) on four hits and four walks in 7.1 innings of work. Weeg's 10 strikeouts marked the second double-digit strikeout total for the senior southpaw on the campaign.

Game Two – Washington 5, Emory 2

The Bears raced out to a 3-0 lead in game two as they plated all three runs in the home half of the first off senior Luke Emmett.

Emory cut the deficit to two in the third inning as Terp grounded out to third, bringing home Draper on the play. WashU increased their lead to 5-1 with back-to-back runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Draper got the Eagles to within three as he recorded a RBI groundout in the seventh. Emory was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the eighth as Terp walked and senior Brian Hernandez singled to lead off the frame. However, Matt Clohisy registered three straight outs to escape the jam.

Emmett was handed the defeat as he fell to 3-2. The senior southpaw gave up four runs on four hits and five walks in four innings on the mound. He punched out five in the outing.

Emory looks to snap their current five-game losing skid as the two teams close out their weekend series Sunday afternoon. First pitch of the series finale is set for 1:00 PM EST.
