Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Kenyon College -- Advances To Semifinals Of NCAA D-III Championships

The No. 1-ranked Emory men's tennis team has advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Championships following a Monday victory over Kenyon College.  The Eagles won their 10th straight match and boosted their overall record to 23-3 following a 5-1 decision over the No. 17-ranked Lords who closed out their year at 14-10.  The D-III Men's and Women's Championships are being held in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Emory emerged with a 2-1 lead after doubles action with the sophomore tandem of David Omsky and Andrew Harrington registering the first point of the match, an 8-4 decision at No. 3, their 17th triumph in 21 outings this year.  Shortly thereafter, the Eagles' No. 1 duo of sophomore Scott Rubinstein and freshman James Spaulding pushed Emory to a 2-0 lead following their 8-3 outcome over Sam Geier and Tristan Kaye at No. 1.  The Lords accounted for their lone point of the match at No. 2 doubles with Michael Liu and Robert Turlington bettering Senior Rafe Mosetick and freshman Jonathan Jemison, ending the Emory duo's nine-match win streak.

The bottom portion of the singles lineup came through with Emory's next two points, started by Harrington's decisive 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 over Peter Dakich, which raised his season slate to 21-8.  Junior Josh Goodman put the Eagles' one point from clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-2, verdict against Max Smith at No. 5.  Jemison then closed things out at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-4, win vs. Michael Liu. His 10th straight victory and 26th in 30 decisions on the year.

Emory will meet No. 4-ranked Bowdoin College (18-3) in the semifinal round on Tuesday, with that contest slated for an 8:30 am start at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo.
