Emory Men's Tennis Tops Kenyon In ITA National Indoor Opener

The No. 5-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened the ITA National Indoor Championships with a quarterfinal-round victory over Kenyon College Friday afternoon.  The Eagles evened their spring record to 2-2 following an 8-1 triumph over the No. 10 Lords who fell to 1-4.

Emory was dominant in doubles, capturing all three matches. The No. 2 team of senior Rafe Mosetick and freshman Jonathan Jemison earned the first point of the match with an 8-1 decision, which was followed shortly after by the No. 3 duo of sophomore David Omsky and freshman Andrew Harrington, 8-3, over Mike Roberts and Robert Turlington. Closing out the sweep at first doubles were sophomore Scott Rubinstein and freshman James Spaulding, 8-6, vs. Sam Geier and Tristan Kaye.

The Eagles carried the momentum into singles where they won five of the six matches. Junior Josh Goodman gave Emory a 4-0 lead when he rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 decision vs. Tristan Kaye. After KC claimed its only point at No. 1 singles, Jemison then sealed the outcome with his 6-2, 6-2, verdict over Michael Liu at No. 2.  Other Emory singles winners included freshman Adrien Bouchet at No. 4 (4-6, 6-3, 11-9 vs. Nicholas Paolucci), freshman Andrew Harrington at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2 vs. Roberts) and junior Aman Maji at No. 3 (6-4, 4-6, 10-8) against Turlington).

Emory, the No. 3 seed, continues play at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Saturday with a 1:00 pm semifinal-round match against either No.  2 seed Pomona-Pitzer or No. 7 seed Carnegie Mellon.
