Box Score Emory University junior outfielder/ designate hitter Brett Lake was selected to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week and chosen as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Hitter of the Week, while freshman Jackson Weeg was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week.
This was the second time this season that Lake has been named a UAA Athlete of the Week and to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week. It was the first career conference honor for Weeg.
Lake went three-for-four with a solo home run, his second of the season, during the Eagles' 7-6 loss at Oglethorpe University last Wednesday. He led off the fifth inning with a home run over the left field wall, giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead at the time. The designated hitter also had singles in the first and third innings (scoring a run in the third), and drew an RBI bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning. He has hit safely in all 18 games this season, and has a 19-game hitting streak dating back to the 2013 campaign. Lake leads all Eagles this season with a .520 average (37-for-71), 25 runs scored, nine doubles, 30 RBIs, a .761 slugging percentage and a .600 on base percentage.
Weeg pitched three and a third scoreless innings in relief during the Eagles' loss at Oglethorpe. He allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out four during his 37-pitch outing, resulting in a no-decision. Through four appearances, including two starts, and 21.1 innings this season, the southpaw has a 2-0 record with a 0.84 ERA, while striking out 17 and walking eight.
Lake and Weeg have helped the Eagles notch a record of 12-6 this season, including a 3-1 record at the 2014 UAA Championships. Emory will continue conference play on Wednesday against the University of Rochester.
