Box Score Senior Misha Jackson scored 12 points and Hannah Lilly added 11 in leading the No. 18-ranked Emory women's basketball team to a win over Brandeis University Friday evening. The Eagles captured their fourth straight contest and raised their overall record to 15-2, 5-1 in the University Athletic Association following a 59-28 verdict over the Judges who slipped to 7-10 overall, 1-5 in the league.
Emory shot 40.7 percent from the floor (24-of-59), including 38.1 percent from three-point range (8-of-21), while the Judges were able to connect on just 17 percent (9-of-53) of their field goal attempts. Emory enjoyed a healthy 50-39 margin on the glass and were led in that department by senior Danielle Landry who snagged 11 caroms, her second straight and fourth performance of double digits this season.
Jackson was successful on five-of-seven from the floor en route to chalking up her 13th double-figure scoring effort of the year. Lilly converted four of her nine field goal attempts and drained three three-point field goals, running her streak to 22 straight contests with at least one triple.
Emory took control of the game early on using a 20-2 run over a 7:30 stretch that gave it a 22-5 lead with 11:44 left in the first half. Junior Savannah Morgan and freshman Ilene Tsao each scored five points in the blitz while Landry and Jackson each registered four points. A bucket by Jackson with four minutes left in the stanza gave the Eagles a 20-point cushion, 29-9, and they would go into the intermission the owners of a 32-12 advantage. Brandeis mounted little offense during the opening 20 minutes of play, hitting just 5-of-29 from the floor compared to Emory's mark of 48.3 percent (14-of-29). Morgan and Jackson paced the Eagles' scoring effort with eight points apiece while Janelle Rodriguez accounted for nine of the Judges' dozen points.
Brandeis' 28 points represented the second-lowest total against a Christy Thomaskutty-coached Emory team and was the lowest mark turned in by a conference foe.
Emory returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 27) when it plays host to New York University starting at 2:00 pm.
