The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team kept its perfect spring season intact Saturday afternoon with a solid effort that resulted in a home victory over Coastal Georgia. The Eagles upped their record to 14-0 following an 8-1 triumph over the Mariners who fell to 6-11.
Emory enjoyed a 2-1 advantage after doubles with the No. 1 tandem of seniors Chris Goodwin and Will Humphreys raising their mark to 3-1 on the spring with an 8-4 decision over Louis Volclair and Derrick Taylor. Accounting for the other doubles point was senior Dillon Pottish and freshman Brian Kowalski with an 8-3 verdict against Robin Lucas and Alejandro Aquilino at No. 3, boosting the duo's ledger to 4-0.
The Eagles were dominant in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Pottish increased his spring record to 13-1 (22-2 on the year) with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Volclair at No. 1, while Goodwin bettered Derrick Taylor at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0, his seventh win in as many outings this spring. Freshman Eric Halpern breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Aquilino at No. 5, his 13th victory in 14 decisions. Rookies Brian Kowalski (6-2, 6-2), Ian Wagner (6-1, 6-2) and Alex Ruderman (6-3, 6-3) all earned singles with at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 positions, respectively.
Emory returns to action with a Tuesday (Apr. 10) match at Shorter University.
