The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team remained undefeated Tuesday afternoon as it recorded a victory over Shorter University at the Woodruff PE Center. The Eagles ran their record to 11-0 after posting an 8-1 verdict over the Hawks who slipped to 7-9.
The Eagles came out of doubles with a 3-0 lead after sweeping that portion of the contest with the highlight being a thrilling 9-8 victory by seniors Chris Goodwin and Will Humphreys against Florain Etienne and Romain Ferriera at the No. 1 spot. Junior Elliott Kahler and freshman Ian Wagner notched at 8-2 decision at No. 2, raising their ledger to 10-1 this spring (9-1 at No. 2), while senior Dillon Pottish and freshman Brian Kowalski earned an 8-1 triumph at No. 3.
Emory kept the momentum going in singles, with all five of its wins coming in straight sets. Goodwin won his fourth straight match with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Arturo Lifshitz at the No. 3 post, while freshman Alex Ruderman made short work of Cody Carr at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0, raising his spring record to 10-0. Freshman Brian Kowalski recorded his sixth win in 10 decisions at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2 vs. Etienne and was joined in the victory column by classmates Ian Wagner at No. 4 and Eric Halpren at No. 5.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday (Mar. 22) when they host No. 4-ranked Johns Hopkins University (3-2) in a 2:00 p.m. start.
