Emory Men's Tennis Wins Two At Stag-Hen Invitational -- Saturday Match vs. Claremont-Mudd Scripps Cancelled

The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team won a pair of matches at the Stag-Hen Invitational on Friday, defeating No. 30 Skidmore College, 9-0, before coming away with a 6-2 decision over No. 6 Kenyon College.  The Eagles were to battle No.  4 Claremont-Mudd Scripps in the title match on Saturday, however rain forced the cancellation of the contest.

The Eagles breezed through their match against the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore, jumping off to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles before earning wins in all six singles matches, five in straight sets.  Senior Dillon Pottish defeated Oliver Loutsenko, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and joined up with classmate Chris Goodwin to defeat Loutsenko and Alec Hoblitzell, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

The Eagles had to rally in their bout against the Lords of Kenyon, falling behind by a 2-1 count after the doubles portion of play.  Emory turned in a solid performance in singles, winning all five matches that were contested.  Pottish, the No. 1-ranked singles player in D-III, boosted his record to 10-0 after a 6-3, 6-4 decision over No. 26-ranked Paul Burgin.  Freshman Brian Kowalski battled to a 7-6, 6-1 triumph over Michael Razumovsky at the No. 2 spot while fellow rookie Ian Wagner upped his record to 8-1 at the No. 3 post (9-1 overall) with a 6-3, 6-2 verdict against C.J. Williams.  Goodwin, still in the process of returning to form after being slowed by an injury, nailed down a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 while freshman Eric Halpern notched a 7-5, 6-2, victory against Tim Rosensteel at No. 5.

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Mar. 20) when it hosts Shorter in a 2:00 p.m. start.
