Box Score The Emory women's basketball team saw a four-game win streak come to an end on Sunday as it came out on the short end of a road game at Case Western Reserve University. The Eagles saw their overall record slip to 17-7, 8-5 in the University Athletic Association, following a 77-60 setback to the Spartans who boosted their record to 14-10 overall, 7-6 in the league.
Emory ended the afternoon shooting 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the floor compared to CWRU's 50.9 percent (28-of-55). The Spartans found their range during the second half of play, sinking 59 percent (13-of-22) of their field goal tries while Emory struggled, converting just 33.3 percent (9-of-27). Both teams shot well from three-point range with Emory draining 44.4 percent (8-of-18) of its opportunities while Case knocked down 44 percent (11-of-25). The Spartans held a big 43-23 advantage on the boards, 14-7 on the offensive end that led to them posting a 13-2 bulge in second-chance points.
The trio of Hannah Lilly, Savannah Morgan and Misha Jackson combined for 50 points with Lilly leading all players with 23 points, her ninth outing of 20 or more points this season. She hit eight-of-14 from the floor including five triples in 10 attempts. Jackson totaled 14 points, sinking seven field goals in 15 attempts while Morgan posted 13 points along with nine assists, raising her season total to 138 – just one shy of tying the school's seasonal mark held by Amy Carter (1994-95).
Emory held a 55-53 lead with 11:12 left in the game following a basket by freshman O'dez Oraedu, but went scoreless for the next 6:36, missing five field goal attempts and turning the ball over on four occasions in that stretch, while Case was putting together a 15-0 run that put it ahead by a 68-55 margin. After a basket by Jackson with 4:35 on the clock ended the Emory scoring drought and brought it to within 11, the Spartans rattled off eight unanswered points in claiming an insurmountable 76-57 lead with 1:26 left. Leading the Case scoring effort on the day was Evy Iacono with 22 points.
Behind 20 points from Lilly, the Eagles held a 38-37 advantage at halftime. Emory faced a 29-23 deficit with 4:57 left in the stanza before closing out the half on a 15-8 run in claiming the one-point lead at the break. Lilly scored six points in that stretch on the strength of two three-point field goals while Morgan totaled seven points. Morgan closed out the half with 10 points while Jackson was the only other Emory to score during the opening 20 minutes of action with eight points. The Eagles connected on 48 percent (15-of-31) of their field goal tries and used the three-ball to their advantage, sinking five-of-nine attempts. Lilly was on fire in the opening half, knocking down seven-of-10 from the floor including four-of-six from beyond the arc. Morgan was successful on four of her six field goal attempts while Jackson sank four-of-eight. Case converted 45 percent from the field (15-of-33) and was led in scoring by Iacono's 10 points. The Spartans enjoyed a 24-13 edge in the rebounding department but were hampered by 11 turnovers.
Emory returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 25) when it closes out the regular season at Rochester in a 2:00 p.m. tip.
