No. 16 Emory Women's Basketball Earns Road Win At Birmingham Southern

Box Score

Emory senior Danielle Landry scored all of her team-high 16 points in the second half of action to pace four-double figure scorers as the No. 16-ranked  Eagles captured a Friday evening road win at Birmingham Southern.  Emory raised its overall record to 6-0 following an 82-59 decision over the Panthers who slipped to 1-4.

The Eagles ended the game shooting 50 percent (32-of-64) from the field compared to the host Panthers' effort of 48 percent (19-of-40).  Emory converted 10-of-25  three-point field goal attempts, its second consecutive outing of double figures in that category.   Though BSC finished with a 31-27 edge in rebounding, the Panthers turned the ball over on 25 occasions while Emory totaled 10 turnovers.  The Eagles concluded the contest with a decided 29-6 bulge in points off turnovers.

After missing her only field goal opportunity in the opening half, Landry sank all seven of her field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes of play en route to registering a season high in points.  Senior Misha Jackson and junior Hannah Lilly each added 14 points while junior Savannah Morgan rounded out the squad's  double-figure scorers with 12 points while doling out five assists with no turnovers in 33 minutes of action.  In her last three performances, Morgan has dished out 19 assists while accumulating just two turnovers.    Lilly and Morgan chalked up seven of the team's 10 treys with Morgan draining four-of-eight attempts while Lilly was successful on three of her eight tries.

Behind 10 points from Jackson and nine from Lilly, the Eagles staked themselves to a 34-20 advantage at halftime.  Jackson hit five-of-eight from the floor while Lilly accounted for two of the squad's five three-point field goals in the stanza.  Emory held a 13-12 lead midway through the stanza before using a 15-2 surge, keyed by Lilly's seven points, over a 5:35 stretch to assume a commanding 28-14 lead.  Emory hit 38 percent (13-of-34) of its field goal attempts during the opening half of action while the Panthers shot 39 percent (7-of-18).   The Eagles were able to get considerable more shot attempts in part to their defense that forced 16 BSC turnovers.

Behind Landry's big offensive effort, the Eagles connected on 63.3 percent (19-of-30) of their field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes.   She scored nine straight points in an Emory 17-10 run that started the half as the Eagles built their lead to 21 points with 13:43 left on the clock.   Emory used an 8-0 burst over an 80-second span that widened their advantage to 30 points, 67-37, with 8:44 remaining before posting its largest margin on the night at 32 points with 3:15 left.

Emory returns to action on Monday (Dec. 3) when it hosts at Agnes Scott.
