Box Score Emory junior Savannah Morgan posted a career-high 27 points to lead four double-figure scorers and the No. 19-ranked Emory women's basketball team came away with a victory in its first road contest of the season Tuesday evening, defeating LaGrange College. The Eagles boosted their overall record to 3-0 following an 85-71 decision over the Panthers who slipped to 1-1.
Morgan knocked down 10-of-15 field goal attempts, including three-of-five from three-point range, and also contributed four rebounds and four steals. Senior Danielle Landry and sophomore O'Dez Oraedu each compiled 12 points with Oraedu leading all players with 12 rebounds en route to notching her first career double-double. Senior Misah Jackson tallied 11 points and 10 caroms, her third straight double double, while freshman Khadijah Sayyid rounded out Emory's double-digit scorers with 10 points along with coming up with five steals.
Emory ended the game shooting 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the floor compared to LC's effort of 33.9 percent (20-of-59). The Eagles enjoyed a healthy 48-37 edge in the rebounding department which in part led to a 15-6 cushion in second-chance points. Both teams were plagued by turnovers throughout the evening with Emory totaling 32 miscues vs. 30 for the Panthers. Emory did come up with 19 steals in the game, tying the 12th-highest mark in school history.
Emory held a 35-31 lead with 6:10 in the first half before closing out the stanza on an 18-5 blitz to take a commanding 53-36 lead into halftime. Six different players scored in the barrage including Morgan, Sayyid and Landry, all of whom picked up four points in that stretch. Morgan lit up the Panthers for 14 opening-half points while Landry came up with 10 points.
Emory returns to action on Nov. 25 when it plays host to Rust College in a 2:00 p.m. start
