Box Score Emory sophomore Hannah Lilly totaled a career-high 30 points to lead five Emory double-figure scorers, and tied the school's single-game record for three-point field goals for the second time this season in helping the Eagles to a win over LaGrange College on Monday. The Eagles boosted their overall record to 8-2 following a 90-76 triumph over the Panthers who slipped to 6-4.
Lilly finished the game, hitting 11-of-13 from the field, including seven-of-eight from three-point range en route to her third effort of 20 or more points this season. Her 30-point performance tied the school's eighth highest single-game individual total while her seven treys matched the school record as well. Junior Danielle Landry scored 13 points and tied classmate Misha Jackson for team honors with eight rebounds. Jackson also chipped in 11 as did sophomore Savannah Morgan who also dished out six assists. Senior Melissa Koike rounded out the team's double-digit point producers with 11 points, nine of which came in the second half.
Emory ended the contest shooting 53.3 percent (32-of-60) from the floor, its second-highest mark of the campaign, including a blazing 55.0 percent (11-of-20) from beyond the arc, the sixth-highest effort in school annals (10 or more makes). LaGrange connected on 41.7 percent from the floor (25-of-60) and knocked down 11-of-30 three-point opportunities. Leading the Panthers in scoring was Katie Covington with 15 points.
After seeing LaGrange claw back from an 18-point first half deficit by tying the game at 45-45 with 17:13 left in the game, the Eagles responded with a decisive 11-0 burst, keyed by seven points from Lilly, to take a 56-46 lead with 14:50 on the clock. After LC's Heather Miller hit a three pointer with 11:10 left, the Panthers trailed by nine points. The Eagles then scored seven straight points with Koike hitting a pair of buckets followed by a three-pointer by Lilly to assume a 16-point edge with 9:13 on the clock. The Panthers did cut the gap to eight points with 7:36 remaining but a pair of charity tosses by Morgan, followed by a trey by senior Becca Feldman, pushed the lead back to 13 points with 6:50 left. The closest LC would get from the point would be 10 points.
Emory roared out of the blocks, hitting 11 of its first 16 field goal attempts in racing to a 29-14 lead with 10:32 left in the first half. During that run, the Eagles rattled off a 12-0 spurt, keyed by two of Hannah Lilly's four first-half three point field goals that gave Emory its 16-point cushion. The Eagles then used seven straight points from junior Emily Hyncik as part of a 9-5 spurt to take what appeared to be dominant 29-11 bulge with 10:59 on the clock. The Eagles still held a healthy 36-20 margin following another triple by Lilly with 7:31 left on the clock, but the Panthers rallied to post a 20-7 scoring spree to close out the half, including a 9-0 blitz over the final 2:08, and trail by just three points, 43-40, at intermission. Lilly scored 12 points to lead the Eagles' scoring effort while junior Danielle Landry totaled nine. Katie Covington topped all players in the opening stanza with 13 points.
Emory returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7, when it opens UAA play at home vs. Rochester.
