Box Score Emory sophomore Hannah Lilly scored 19 points and junior Misha Jackson added 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell at Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles saw a five-game win streak come to an end as the Lions escaped with an 81-72 victory. Emory is now 5-2 on the year while Piedmont boosted its record to 6-0.
Emory ended the game shooting 43.5 percent from the floor (27-of-62) compared to the host Lions' mark of 52.7 percent (29-of-55). The Eagles hit six-of-13 from beyond the arc while Piedmont sank seven from distance 17 attempts. Emory finished with a slight 38-36 edge on the glass with junior Danielle Landry adding eight boards.
Lilly connected on seven-of-13 from the floor, including three-of-six from downtown, en route to her sixth double-figure scoring effort of the season. In addition to Jackson's 15 points, other Emory double-figure scorers included sophomore Savannah Morgan and Landry each with 13 points with Landry accounting for all of her game total in the second half. Leading all scorers was Piedmont's Sada Wheeler with 24 points.
Emory faced a 14-point deficit, 53-39, with 13:36 left in the game but rallied to cut the deficit to seven points on four occasions, including a 60-53 gap with 5:52 on the clock following a three-pointer by Morgan. The Lions then rattled off what appeared to be a game-clinching 10-3 run over the next four minutes to post a 70-56 cushion with 1:50 remaining, but the Eagles exploded with a 14-5 burst, capped by a triple by Morgan to draw to within five points with 49 ticks on the clock. After a couple of charity tosses by PC's Alyssa Jones pushed its lead to seven points, a bucket by Landry got the Eagles back to within five points with 19 seconds remaining but the comeback fell short.
Emory got out of the blocks slowly, hitting just four of its first 13 field goal opportunities and turning the ball over five times in falling behind by an 18-11 margin with 10:06 left in the first half. After a three-point field goal by Lilly cut the deficit to four points, the Lions went on an 8-0 run in just a 1:24 span to build a 12-point advantage, 26-14 with 8:29 on the clock. A triple by Piedmont's Amber Satterfield with 4:12 gave the home squad its biggest bulge of the stanza, 35-21, before the Eagles responded with eight unanswered points, led by Jackson's four points to draw to within six points, 35-29, with a minute remaining. However, the Lions picked up the next four points to claim a 39-29 lead at the intermission. Piedmont connected on 53.1 percent of its field goal opportunities (17-of-32) over the opening 20 minutes of action compared to Emory's 41.4 percent effort (12-of-29). Lilly paced the team's first-half scoring attack with 10 points, hitting four-of-eight from the floor, including a pair from beyond the arc. Jackson picked up eight points and snatched five boards.
Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 6) when it plays at Agnes Scott College.
