Emory Women's Basketball Tops Birmingham Southern - Win Streak At Three Games

Box Score

Emory junior Misha Jackson picked up a team-high 20 points to lead four double-figure scorers in sparking a win over Birmingham Southern College on Sunday.  The Eagles notched their third straight victory and boosted their overall record to 3-1 following a 72-59 decision over the Panthers who slipped to 2-3.

Jackson knocked down 10-of-15 from the floor in registering her second straight and fifth career outing of 20 or more points.  Following her career-best 25-point performance on Wednesday against LaGrange College, she becomes the first Eagle to tally back-to-back efforts of 20 or more points since Lora Turner turned the trick in 2009 against Rochester and Carnegie Mellon (Feb. 6 & 8, 2009).  Sophomore Hannah Lilly was next up on the team's scoresheet with 15 points on six-of-10 field goal shooting, including three-of-six from three-point range.  Rounding out the team's double-figure scorers with 10 points each were junior Danielle Landry and sophomore Selena Castillo

For the game, Emory shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the floor, 54.8 percent (17-of-31) during the opening 20 minutes of play as it claimed a 38-23 edge at halftime.  The Eagles held the visiting Panthers to 38.3 percent (23-of-60), the third straight contest that an opponent had converted less than 40 percent of its field goal tries.   Though it was outrebounded by a 35-31 margin, with Landry tying for game honors with nine boards, the Eagles forced 19 BSC turnovers that led to 19 points.

A 20-6 Emory run over an eight-minute span in the first half, keyed by eight points from Lilly and four from Jackson,  snapped an 8-8 deadlock and propelled the Eagles to a 28-14 lead with 6:45 left in the stanza.  Emory built three 16-point leads from there before leading by 15 at the break.

A bucket by Lilly extended Emory's cushion to 18 points, 48-30, with 16:04 left in the game and the Eagles still maintained a 56-39 margin with 10:43 on the clock following a layup by Landry.   The Panthers scrapped back to within 10 points on three occasions, the final time with 6:46 on the clock following a basket by Ashton Spurgin.   However,  Emory held BSC to one point over the next five minutes while scoring six points to push the lead back to 15 points.

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 29) when it plays at Sewanee in a 6:00 p.m. (CST) start.
