ITA Regional Scoreboard
There was no slowing down the Emory men's tennis team on the second day of ITA Regional Championships with the Eagles being represented in both semifinal matches of the Main Singles Draw.
Senior and No. 1 singles seed Chris Goodwin opened Saturday's action with a third-round win over Victor Selander of North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Goodwin stymied freshman teammate Brian Kowalski, 6-1, 6-2. Kowalski earned his spot in the quarterfinals earlier when he bettered Aaron Cotton of Sewanee.
No. 2 seed and two-time defending champion Dillon Pottish defeated teammate Nick Szcureck, 6-1, 7-6, in the third round before marching into the semifinals following his 6-4, 7-6 verdict over Robert Kjellberg of North Carolina Wesleyan in the quarters.
Freshman Alex Ruderman took on No. 4 seed Riley Erhardt in the third round and registered an impressive 6-1, 7-5, victory that sent him to the quarterfinals where he bettered classmate Ian Wagner, 6-2, 7-5. Ruderman will meet Goodwin in the semifinals on Sunday. Wagner had landed in the quarterfinals after he toppled No. 5 seed Jacob Womack of Mississippi College in the third round.
Freshman Eric Halpren will meet Pottish in the semifinals after he posted wins over No. 3 seed Alexey Rumyanstev of North Carolina Wesleyan in the third round and teammate Simon Lavoie-Perusse in the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
The semifinals for the Main Singles Draw will be held on Sunday starting at 9:00 am. The championship is scheduled for an 11 am start.
