The Emory women's basketball team opened a road University Athletic
Association weekend Friday evening with a to the University of
Chicago. The Eagles saw their overall record fall to 9-10,
2-6 in the UAA, following an 81-52 setback to the Maroons who upped
their record to 14-5, 6-2 in the league
Chicago led from start to finish in the contest and finished with a
50.8 percent mark (32-of-63) from the floor while Emory was sank
just 25.8 percent of its field goal attempts (17-of-66).
Sophomore Melissa Koike was Emory's lone double-figure scorer with
12 points, hitting four-of-six from the floor, including
two-of-three from beyond the arc, and both of her free throw
tries. Freshman Danielle Landry contributed nine points along
with a team-high nine rebounds. UC's Meghan Herrick led all
players with 15 points while Jenna Lillemoe totaled 14 points.
Emory trailed at intermission by a 53-23 margin. Nothing much
went the Eagles way during the opening 20 minutes of play as they
hit just 23.5 percent (8-of-34) of their field goal attempts while
Chicago knocked down 57.9 percent (22-of-38). Adding to Chicago's
advantage was a 31-16 advantage in rebounding. Koike came off
the bench to provide Emory with its only consistent offense,
totaling seven points in 12 minutes of play. Herrick and
Molly Hackney paced UC's scoring effort in the opening stanza with
10 and nine points, respectively.
Emory returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 7) when it plays at No.
6-ranked Washington University.
