Biography

Sophomore (2011):

Emerging mid-season as one of the leaders in Emory's rotation,Long made eight appearances, all starts, for the Eagles during hissophomore campaign.  He led all Emory starters during theseason with a 2.68 earned run average (150th among Division IIIpitchers), six victories (133rd among D-III pitchers), 8.65strikeouts per game (128th among D-III pitchers), and 7.0 hits pernine innings (68th among D-III pitchers).  Long's .224 battingaverage against during the year was the lowest on the staff, and hewas second on the squad with 42 strikeouts.  He allowed justfour extra base hits over his 43.2 innings pitched, each adouble.  Of his eight starts, he allowed three or fewer earnedruns in seven (including three starts with no earned runs allowed),and three or fewer totals runs in five.  In back-to-backstarts on March 12th and 22nd, Long allowed just one hit toBrandeis University over six innings and struck out eight (en routeto a team one-hitter, the fewest hits allowed by the Eagles in agame over the last 10 years) and gave up two hits whilestriking out seven over five and a third innings against DePauwUniversity.  At the end of two seasons with Emory, Long ranksthird in school history with a .214 batting average against, fourthwith 9.0 strikeouts per game, and 15th with a 3.00 ERA over hiscareer.

Freshman (2010):

Long appeared in 11 games during his freshman season, making twostarts and holding opponents to a team-best .194 battingaverage.  He finished the season with a 1-1 record with onesave and a 3.72 earned run average.  In his nine reliefappearances, Long was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 15.1innings pitched.  He held lefties to just a .111 battingaverage during the season.  Long's best performance of theseason came during the Eagles' 5-0 win over Atlanta ChristianCollege on April 21st, when he picked up the save after allowingjust one hit and striking out three batters during the final threeinnings of the game.

Played on the Eugene Ashley High School baseball team for threeseasons, serving as the team captain during his senior year... Wasan all-area selection in 2009, and an all-conference honorablemention in 2007... Participated in the 2007 and 2008 state games...Coached by Brian Stewart.

Personal:

Born September 9, 1990... Was an AP Scholar and top-10 in hishigh school class.
