Charlie Copp joined the Emory men's basketball program as an assistant coach in September of 2015.
Copp’s time at Emory includes four UAA Championships (16, 19, 20, 22), eight NCAA Tournament appearances (16-20, 22, 23, 25), three Sweet Sixteens (16, 18, 25), one Elite Eight (25), and three UAA Staff of the Year honors (16, 19, 22).
Copp came to Emory after serving as the head boys’ basketball coach at Decatur High School (Decatur, GA) from 2010-2015. While at the helm, the Bulldogs qualified for the Georgia State Basketball Tournament in 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.
Prior to his stint as head coach, Copp spent four seasons (2006-07 through 2009-10) as an assistant coach at Decatur High School. During his tenure as an assistant, the Bulldogs qualified for the Georgia State Basketball Tournament in 2006-07 and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Copp got his start as an assistant at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic High School (Norristown, PA) in the Philadelphia Catholic League in 2004-2005.
As a player, Copp was a four-year letter winner at the University of Pennsylvania (2000-04), leading the team as a starter and captain in his senior season. During his time, Copp helped the Quakers capture the Ivy League championship and NCAA Tournament bid in 2001-02 and 2002-03 as well as the Philadelphia Big Five Championship (City Series-LaSalle, Penn, St. Joseph’s, and Villanova) in 2001-02. In his senior season Copp received the Philadelphia Big Five Sportsmanship Award.
Copp earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Pennsylvania in 2004. He obtained his teaching certificate in Special Education from Georgia State University in 2008 and his master’s degree in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University in 2010. Charlie lives in Scottdale, GA with his wife Amelia and two sons Bennett and Baxter.
