Biography

Senior (2010):

Gumm saved a team-best two games during his senior campaign, andfinished the year with an earned run average of 2.74 and a recordof 0-2.  He made 18 appearances during the season, the secondmost on the squad.  Gumm's batting average against of .234 wasthe second lowest on the squad, and he struck out 12 batters in 23innings pitched.  He excelled with runners on base, holdingopponents to a .143 batting average (seven-for-49)and opposing batters were just two-for-22 for a .091 battingaverage with two outs.  Gumm finishes his Emory career fourthin school history with 21 games finished, fifth with 60appearances, ninth with four saves and 15th with a .244 battingaverage against. 

Junior (2009):

Gumm had a strong season out of the bullpen for Emory in 2009,recording a 1.35 earned run average in nine appearances.  Hepitched 13.1 innings, striking out six, while holding opponents toa .163 batting average.  Gumm had a five-outing streak wherehe did not allow a hit or a run from March 14th through April 7th,stretching nine and a third innings and culminating with a four anda third inning relief effort against Oglethorpe University.

Sophomore (2008):

Gumm went 0-2 with a 7.04 earned run average over 14appearances, matching his career-best with 12 strikeouts in 10 lessinnings pitched.  He picked up a two-inning save in his firstappearance of the year, holding Millsaps College scoreless in a 4-1victory on February 17th.  Gumm earned his second save of thecampaign with an inning and a third of perfect pitching againstLaGrange College on March 5th. 

Freshman (2007):

Gumm was one of the most impactful freshmen for Emory in2007.  He pitched in 19 games out of the bullpen, the secondmost out of any of the Eagles' relief pitchers.  Gumm went 3-0during the season with a 2.81 earned run average and 12 strikeoutsover 25.2 innings.  During the NCAA Division III NationalChampionship Tournament, Gumm pitched 5.1 innings, giving up tworuns on five hits in two starts, and earned the win against theUniversity of Wisconsin Stevens Point, allowing the Eagles toadvance to the National Championship game.  He earned avictory in his first career outing, pitching three scoreless inningof relief against York College (Pa.).

Prior to Emory:

Attended Pendleton High School where he played on the baseballteam for four seasons... Recorded a 3.18 earned run average with 15strikeouts and two shutouts during the 2005 season... Hit .321 withfour homeruns and 14 runs batted in during the 2006 season... Namedto the "Who's Who Among High School Student Athletes" list from2004-2006... Coached by Mark Morawksi... Also played basketball andfootball in high school.
