Biography

Senior (2010):

Katten was once again at the top of the Eagles' rotation in2010, leading all Emory pitchers in wins with a 6-2 record over 11starts and 12 total appearances.  Katten finished the seasonwith a 4.96 earned run average, while allowing opponents a .332batting average against.  In his 65.1 innings pitched, hestruck out a team-high 39 batters, while walking 22.  He wasparticularly effective in closing out innings, holding opponents toa .279 batting average (24-for-86) with two outs.  Kattenearned all-UAA Tournament honors for his performance at theconference tournament, going 2-0 with a 1.38 earned run average,striking out eight batters in 13 innings and holding opponents to a.224 batting average against.  He pitched seven shutoutinnings against York College (Pa.) on February 27th, allowing justseven hits en route to an 11-0 Emory win.  On March 9thagainst Brandeis University, he pitched eight innings withoutallowing an earned run on five hits, leading the Eagles to a 7-1victory.  Katten finished his Emory career with a 13-5 record,the 14th-most wins in school history.

Junior (2009):

Katten became Emory's top starting pitcher during his juniorseason, leading the team with a 6-3 record, in addition torecording a 4.03 earned run average and striking out 24 batters in58 innings pitched.  Katten made 13 appearances during theseason, including a team-high nine starts, while holding opponentsto a .296 batting average.  He led Emory to a 7-2 win overCase Western Reserve University on March 8th, pitching seven andtwo-thirds innings of two-run baseball, allowing just seven hitsstriking out a season-high six batters. 

Sophomore (2008):

Katten emerged as one of the most reliable arms out of the Emorybullpen during his sophomore campaign, recording a 4.57 earned runaverage and a 1-0 record.  Over 16 appearances, thesecond-most on the pitching staff, he struck out 17 batters in 21.2innings pitched, and was part of two Emory shutouts during theseason.  Katten excelled during the stretch run of the season,as the sophomore allowed just one earned run on five hits in hislast six appearances (eight innings pitched), while striking outfive and not issuing a walk.  He allowed just one extra-basehit, a double, during the season.  The sophomore earned thefirst victory of his career during the Eagles' 11-10 victory overMaryville College (Tenn.) on April 16th.

Freshman (2007):

Katten pitched in nine games out of the bullpen for the Eaglesduring the season, holding his opponents to one run or less ineight of the nine outings.  The freshman pitched a scorelessinning against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) at the UniversityAthletic Association (UAA) Tournament.  Katten finished theseason with a 4.91 ERA.
