Monk was also named to the NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team, going 1-1 with two saves for the Eagles during the Regional. He only needs one save during the 2016 season to become the All-Time leader in school history in career saves.

Freshman (2014):

Monk emerged as the Eagles’ closer at the end of the 2014 season, making a team-high nine appearances out of the bullpen during Emory’s 12 NCAA Championship games, and recording six saves with a 1.88 ERA.  During his 14.1 innings pitched in the NCAA Tournament, he struck out nine batters without issuing a walk, and held opponents to a .278 batting average.  Monk appeared in five of the Eagles’ six games during the NCAA Regionals, converting saves in four of the games without allowing an earned run, earning a spot on the South Regional All-Tournament Team, and was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for the effort.  Overall during the season, the freshman was 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA over a team-high 21 appearances out of the bullpen, striking out 22 and walking just eight over 30 innings and holding opponents to a .246 average.  His seven saves during the year were the fifth-most in a single season in Emory history and are already the eighth-most over an Emory career.  Lefties were just seven-for-37 (.189) against Monk during the season, and the opposition hit just .213 (10-for-47) with the bases empty.  He held opposing teams scoreless in 15 of his 21 outings, and without an earned run in 17 of his appearances.  Monk registered the first save of his career in the Eagles’ regular-season finale, a 5-3 victory over Huntingdon College on April 27th.
