Biography

Senior (2008):

Smith was one of Emory's top performers out of the bullpenduring the season, making 21 appearances, the seventh-most inschool history.  The right-handed senior recorded acareer-best 2.36 earned run average over his 34.1 innings pitched,compiling a career-high three wins to two losses.  His 1.57walks per nine innings in 2008 was the eight-best single seasonratio in school history, and his 2.69 mark over his career is theninth-best average in school history.  Smith made the firsttwo starts of his Emory career at the end of the season, allowingfive earned runs over 11 innings, including five shutout inningsand a victory against the University of Dallas on April 19th.

Junior (2007):

Smith experienced a new level of success with Emory during the2007 season.  After appearing in just 11 games in his firsttwo seasons combined, the junior came out of the bullpen 17 timesduring the year for the Eagles, the third-most relief appearanceson the team.  Smith compiled a 4.56 earned run average and a1-1 record, earning his first career victory against MaryvilleCollege (Tenn.) with three hitless innings during the outing. He pitched 7.1 postseason innings for the Eagles, including a3.2-inning outing against The University of Wisconsin-StevensPoint, helping Emory advance to the National Championshipgame.  At the University Athletic Association (UAA)Tournament, Smith struck out the side against Brandeis University(Mass.)'s 4-5-and-6 hitters in the fifth inning, en route to tyinghis career best with four strikeouts in the appearance.

Sophomore (2006):

Smith made five appearances on the mound this season, finishingwith an ERA of 5.14 and recording one save.  In seven totalinnings of work, Smith struck out eight batters, highlighted bystriking out three in one inning against Juniata College (Pa.) onFeb. 26.  Recorded a save versus Centre College (Ky.) on March23.

Freshman (2005):

Freshman pitcher made six appearances, striking out eightbatters in 6.2 innings.

Attended Berkeley Carroll High School, where he played on thebaseball team for four seasons... Served as the captain of the teamduring his senior year... Pitched 45 innings in 2004, striking out50 batters... Part of the ACIS championship team for threeseasons... Coached by Walter Paller... Also played basketball inhigh school.
