Biography

Senior (2015): 

Bloomsmith pitched in nine games out of the bullpen for the Eagles during his senior season, finishing the year with a 5.06 ERA.  He totaled 10.2 innings pitched, striking out 12 batters and walking just four.  The righty pitched a perfect inning in relief against New York University during a 10-0 Emory win on March 8th.  Bloomsmith added a pair of hitless innings and a season-high five strikeouts in a 10-1 win over the University of Chicago on March 28th.  He finished his career with a 2-2 record and a 3.74 ERA with six saves over 41 appearances and 53 innings pitched.

Junior (2014):

Bloomsmith appeared in six games out of the bullpen for Emory during his junior season.  He recorded back-to-back scoreless outings against DePauw University on March 22nd and at LaGrange College on April 23rd, pitching an inning in each game.

Sophomore (2013):

Bloomsmith emerged as the Eagles’ closer during the 2013 season, earning all-University Athletic Association (UAA) Second Team honors for his work during the year.  He finished his sophomore campaign with a 1.30 ERA (the third-lowest in a single season by an Eagle with at least 20 innings pitched) and a 2-2 record, while notching six saves, tied for the sixth-most in a single season in the program’s history and the 50th-best mark in Division III in 2013.  In addition, his 21 appearances were tied for the eight-most ever by an Eagle, while his 17 games finished were the fifth-most in school history.  In his final 14 appearances of the season, Bloomsmith converted five saves and notched an ERA of 0.52.  He earned his first career victory during the Eagles’ season-opening 8-3 win at Rhodes, allowing just one run over two and a third innings of relief.  He also picked up a victory with 2.2 innings of hitless relief work during the Eagles’ extra-inning win over Oglethorpe on April 16th, surrendering just one walk and striking out two.  Bloomsmith earned his first career save on March 3rd against Huntingdon, an NCAA Tournament team.  On April 20th against Methodist, another team that qualified for the NCAA Championships, he recorded a career-best three strikeouts and earned a save with a perfect inning of work.

Freshman (2012):

Bloomsmith appeared in five games out of the bullpen for Emory during his freshman year, recording a 1.93 earned run average.  He pitched 9.1 innings during the season, allowing just two runs on nine hits, while walking seven and striking out four batters.  Bloomsmith held opponents to a .250 batting average during the campaign.  The righty recorded scoreless appearances against Berry College on March 6th, Oglethorpe University on April 19th, and Division II North Georgia College and State University on May 2nd.  In addition, in his only appearance of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament, he held Washington University (Mo.) to just one run on two hits over four innings of relief work.

Played for Starr's Mill High School for four seasons... Was his team's 2011 Defensive MVP... Struck out 85 batters in 65 innings his senior year with a 2.72 ERA and four complete games... Coached by Brent Moseley... Also swam for a year in high school.

Born July 25, 1993... Won his high school's 2011 Academic Award.
