Biography

Senior (2009):

Hissey capped off his extremely successful Emory career withall-South Region and all-UAA honors during his seniorcampaign.  He finished the year as the team leader with 44runs scored and 37 stolen bases (the second-most in schoolhistory), while finishing second on the squad with a .369 battingaverage, 59 hits, 30 RBIs and 26 walks.  Hissey finished theyear third among all Division III players in stolen bases, andninth with .88 stolen bases per game.  He started all 42 gamesfor Emory during the season, recording a .962 fielding percentagewhile splitting time in the outfield and at second base.  His17 multiple hit games ranked him second on the squad during theseason, and his seven multiple RBI games were the third most by anEagle in 2009.  He had an 11-game hitting streak from March11th - 29th, reaching base safely in all 42 Emory games, and had astreak of 50-consecutive games reaching base dating back to2008.  On March 11th against Washington University (Mo.),Hissey stole the 95th career base to set a new school record, andfinished his career with 113 stolen bases.  Hissey set theschool record for stolen bases in a game on March 6th against theUniversity of the South, swiping five bags during the game. He finished his career second in school history in runs scored(180), third in hits (237) and stolen base percentage (.890), andranked in the top-10 in school history in numerous otherstatistical categories.  At the end of the year, Hissey wasdrafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 50th round of the MLBFirst Year Player Draft. 

Junior (2008):

Hissey was one of four players to start all 37 games during theseason for the Eagles, leading the team with 46 runs scored and 23stolen bases on 25 attempts.  The junior leftfielder recordedthree hitting streaks of eight or more games during the season,finishing the year with the fourth-highest batting average on theteam (.369).  Rotating between the leadoff spot and lower inthe order, he set career-bests with three home runs, 23 RBIs and 23walks, while striking out a career-low 11 times.  Hissey endedhis junior year tied for third in school history with 76 careerstolen bases (18 away from the school record), seventh with 136career runs score, and ninth with a career .365 battingaverage.

Sophomore (2007):

Hissey played in all 53 games and made 49 starts for the Eaglesduring the season.  He finished with a .345 batting average,and tied for the team lead with 51 runs scored.  He led theteam with 29 stolen bases (the fourth-best single-season total inschool history), and his .55 stolen bases per game was the69th-best ratio in Division III baseball in 2007.  Hisseyfinished third on the team with a .434 on base percentage, walking21 times during the year (the second-best on the team) and gettinghit by 13 pitches (the second-highest total in schoolhistory).  His biggest hit of the season came against CortlandState (N.Y.) in the Division III Championship Tournament, when hehit a go-ahead three run home run, his only round-tripper of theseason.  Hissey led the team with 14 runs scored in theEagles' 11 postseason games.  On April 21st against MaryvilleCollege (Tenn.), he tied Emory single-game records with eight atbats and five hits during a 12-7 win.  Hissey finished theyear third on the team with 21 multiple hit games.  He endshis junior season eighth in school history in both career battingaverage (.363) and stolen bases (53).  

Freshman (2006):

Hissey was named the 2006 UAA Player of the Year for hisperformance at the UAA Championships where he helped guide theEagles to the conference title.  Hissey finished the yearbatting .391 with 52 hits.  He also scored 39 runs andrecorded 22 RBI.  For the year he led the team in stolen baseswith 24 on 26 attempts.  In the team's season opening seriesagainst Maryville College (Tenn.), Hissey collected four stolenbases in the team's second game.  On March 4 against MaryvilleCollege, Hissey finished 4-4, while scoring four runs andcollecting three RBI.  In a double-header versus theUniversity of the South (Tenn.) he finished a combined 2-5 thatincluded scoring three runs and a homerun.

Transferred from Rollins College in Winer Park, Fla. afterplaying one season on the baseball team... Attended Unionville HighSchool, where he competed on the baseball team for four seasons...Served as the captain during his senior season... Was a all-Leaguefirst team player in 2002, 2003 and 2004... hit .492 with threehomeruns in 2002, .476 with three homeruns in 2003, and .400 whilestealing 18 bases in 2004... Coached by George DeDonato... Alsocompeted on the football team in high school, where he was anall-League quarterback.

Personal:

Born on November 9, 1985... His younger brother, Peter, wasselected by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2008 MLBFirst Year Player Draft.
