The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's soccer team earned a hard-fought neutral site victory on Sunday, taking down previously unbeaten University of Lynchburg, 1-0, at the Charlotte Soccer Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Eagles picked up their second straight shutout to improve to 6-0-3 on the season ahead of UAA action while the loss was the first for Hornets this season as they fell to 8-1.
Following several strong scoring chances in the opening stages of the second half, junior Mikayla Camp provided the difference maker with the decisive goal in the 72nd minute. The birthday girl knocked in the loose ball from right in front of the goal line following a Kaitlyn Nimmer corner kick for her third goal of the season.
The Eagles led the defensive battle with 13-8 edge in total shots and a 6-5 margin in shots on goal. Senior Rachel Carr made five saves, including three big time stops in the second half, to preserve the clean sheet.
Emory now turns its attention to conference play as the team welcomes Carnegie Mellon to Atlanta for a Saturday afternoon tilt starting at 2:00 PM on October 3rd.
