The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's soccer team was dealt its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling at home to No. 23 Carnegie Mellon 2-0 in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.
With the result, the Eagles slip to 6-1-3 on the season while CMU improves to 7-1-2.
The Tartans were able to use a pair of late second half goals to pull away from the Eagles, scoring in the 73rd and 88th minutes to prevail. For the game, Emory outshot Carnegie Mellon 13-6 and had a 5-4 margin in shots on goal.
CMU's Lauren Ricapito found the back of the net for the game's first score with a volley just outside the 18-yard box following a headed ball by an Emory defender. In the closing minutes, Audrey Bianco added to the Tartans' total with a one-timer from the top of the 18 for her team-leading eighth goal of the campaign.
For the Eagles, juniors Emory Bozzuti and Mikayla Camp recorded three shots a piece for the offense.
Emory will look to rebound Tuesday night with a non-conference tilt at Covenant College. Kickoff from atop Lookout Mountain is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
