The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's soccer team scored four second half goals to cruise to a 5-0 crosstown victory over Oglethorpe University Friday night in Brookhaven.
Senior Kaitlyn Nimmer and junior Emory Bozzuti both recorded braces on the evening with Nimmer leading the Eagles with five points in the contest. Senior Madison Teng also played a role for three of Emory's tallies with a team-high three assists.
With her five points, Nimmer eclipses 100Â points in her career as she becomes only the third player in Emory women's soccer history to reach that milestone. Nimmer passed Amber Poe (101 points) and Amy (Smith) Bryant (98) on Friday to move into second place all-time on the career points ladder with 103 points and trails only Annie Schenck (120) on the all-time career list.
Junior Mikayla Camp opened the scoring on Friday as she notched the Eagles' opening goal of the game in the 12th minute following the double assist from Teng and Nimmer.
Despite a 9-2 lead in shots through the first 45 minutes, the scoring floodgates opened in the second half as the Eagles broke open the game.
Within the opening 4:11 of the second half, Nimmer found the back of the net twice to hit her milestone. She began the second half barrage in the 47th minute and added another strike in the 50th minute to give Emory a 3-0 advantage.
Bozzuti padded the Eagles' ledger with her two scores later in the half, first scoring off a rebound following a Melina Ramirez attempt off the crossbar in the 76th minute before freezing the Oglethorpe defense with a shot in the 83rd minute to provide the 5-0 final margin.
Emory finished the night with a 28-2 margin in total shots and had a 17-0 mark in shots on goal.
The Eagles will head to Charlotte, North Carolina next to face the University of Lynchburg on Sunday. Kickoff from the Charlotte Soccer Academy is set for 1:00 PM.
