The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw Tuesday night in a back-and-forth affair with the Sewanee Tigers at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.
Both teams stayed unbeaten with the result as the Tigers moved to 4-0-2 while the Eagles concluded their second straight tie to move to 4-0-3.
Following 40 minutes of scoreless soccer, the teams traded barbs during the closing minutes of the first half. Sewanee struck first when Josie Alexander put back her own rebound from close range to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the 41st minute. Nearly 90 seconds later, the Eagles countered as Melina Ramirez found the back of the net with a header off a Kaitlyn Nimmer corner kick at the 42:11 mark.
The score remained 1-1 until the 65th minute when Sewanee went back in front as Stella Martin found the nylon of the back post from a free kick.
The Eagles did not trail for long however as junior Emory Bozzuti leveled things once more with header off the rebound after Nimmer drew the crossbar on her attempt. Moments later in the 72nd minute, senior Stella Gall recorded her first collegiate goal as she lifted a long-range free kick over the leaping Tigers keeper for the go-ahead goal.
Sewanee though was able to find the sixth and final goal of the night when Amelia Comeaux headed in a Greer Brantley offering in the 83rd minute.
The Eagles applied pressure late with four opportunities including three off the boot of Nimmer but were unable to find the game-winner.
For the contest, Emory outshot the Tigers 31-8 including a 13-6 margin in shots on target. The Eagles also outgained Sewanee 11-1 in corner kicks.
Emory will venture to crosstown foe Oglethorpe University Friday night before heading to Charlotte on Sunday to face Lynchburg.
