The Emory University men's soccer team earned the John P. Salamone Invitational title Sunday afternoon, dominating McMurray University from start to finish in the 7-0 whitewash. The weekend tournament was hosted across town at Oglethorpe University.
The final tally was never in doubt as the Eagles outshot the War Hawks 32-0 as well as had a 15-0 margin in shots on goal. Six different Emory players found the back of the net on the afternoon with senior Logan Steren notching a brace.
In the first half, junior Jake Breitegan continued his stellar weekend performance with another goal, his fourth of the tournament, and was joined in the scoring column by Vincent Maraschiello and Zachary Blacher to give Emory a 3-0 advantage through the opening 45 minutes.
Steren excelled in the second half for the Eagles, scoring both of his tallies, and was joined on the stat sheet by Stephen Hlobik and Ewen Robertson.
For Blacher and Hlobik, the markers represented the first career goals for the Eagles while Breitegan padded his team lead with his fifth of the season.
Emory, now standing 5-1-1 on the season, will be back at home on Saturday as the team hosts Berry College under the lights. Kickoff from the Woodruff PE Center is set for 7:00 PM on September 26th.
