The No. 4 ranked Emory University men's soccer team was dealt its first loss of the season on Friday, falling on the road to the University of Redlands in Redlands, California.
The Bulldogs pulled off their second upset win of the week after scoring the decisive goal in the 88th minute as Thomas Lyden notched an unassisted tally with 2:24 remaining in the contest. Redlands previously knocked off No. 2 Trinity (TX) last Sunday.
Playing shorthanded, the Eagles trailed in the shots department 16-10 while Redlands led 3-2 in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also outgained Emory in the corner kick category, 7-1.
Three different Eagles recorded a pair of shots in the game with newcomers Jeremiah Cateau and Stephen Hlobik accounting for both of Emory's shots on goal. Senior Geoffrey Halpern posted a pair of saves in the loss.
Emory will look to rebound on Sunday as the team closes out its weekend trip to California with a matchup against California Lutheran.
