The No. 4 ranked Emory University men's soccer team returned to the field Tuesday night and prevailed with a second half comeback victory at the Sewanee Tigers.
The Eagles trailed 2-1 at the halftime break but used a pair of second half tallies to overcome the host Tigers, 3-2, in the season opener for both squads.
Newcomer Jeremiah Cateau wasted no time fitting in with his new teammates as he put Emory on the board just 84 seconds into the contest with a beautiful, curling free kick from the top of the box.
Sewanee answered later in the first half with a pair of strikes, first notching the equalizer in the 35th minute before taking the lead with a successful penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
The Eagles trailed until the 76th minute when senior Nick Carrano came through with an unassisted marker. Five minutes later, Emory came through with a 3-on-2 attack with sophomore transfer Ewen Robertson splitting the defense with a pass to the right side, finding Vincent Maraschiello who in turn connected with a strike to the opposite post.
For the game, both teams were even with seven shots on goal each while the Tigers held a 19-18 edge in total shots.
Emory will be back in Atlanta this weekend to host Belhaven and Brevard in the annual Sonny Carter Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
