The Emory University softball team took down Berry to open play at the NCAA Regional in Jackson, MS on Thursday, beating the Vikings 1-0 as senior first baseman
Ella Hoyle drove a home run out to left field to secure the first postseason win for the Eagles.
Freshman pitcher
Sydney Thune had a career-defining day in the circle for Emory, throwing a complete game with no runs on one hit and eight strikeouts to hold off the Vikings. She carried a perfect game into the seventh inning, retiring the first 18 batters she faced.
It was a battle of the pitchers as the game went scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, with Emory recording five hits through six innings before Hoyle's seventh-inning heroics.Â
The Eagles will take on the top-seeded Belhaven Blazers tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. E.T. in the winner's bracket of the Jackson Regional.
