The Emory University track & field teams capped off their split squad weekend on Saturday with members of the team competing at both the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta and in Tennessee at the Mount Laurel Open. There was no team scoring at the GT Invite while the Emory throwers led the Eagles to fifth and 10th place showings at Sewanee.
The Eagles' throwing contingent represented the team at Sewanee on Saturday with a combined five wins over six events. For the women, they scored 54 points to take fifth in the team standings whereas the men notched 34 points to place 10th.
Sophomore Jeanette Hydukovich recorded a pair of wins as she paced the field with marks of 12.80m in the shot put and 43.09m in the discus. Elsewhere in the hammer throw, freshman Caroline Henry went for 47.89m to win the event. Henry added a third place finish in the discus at 42.45m and was fourth in the shot put at 12.13m.
On the men's side, sophomore Ari Klasky took part in three events for the Eagles while netting wins in two of them. In the shot put, Klasky posted a mark of 16.33m before going for 48.19m in the discus. Earlier, he was second in the hammer with a throw of 45.08m.
In Atlanta, the Eagles continued to perform after showcasing Friday night with the team taking part in a total of eight events on Saturday.
Sophomore Amaya Grant and freshman Laura Jablonover highlighted the women's team as the duo ran sub 25.50 in the 200m with Grant registering a season-best 25.14 and Jablonover running a 25.42. Earlier in the afternoon, the pair teamed with Jada Kenner and Anna Jennings for a season-best time of 47.45 in the 4x100m relay.
The women's team also saw leading times turned in from sophomore Aaliyah Jalloh in the 400m dash (57.31) and by senior Payton Sullivan in the 800m run (2:17.72).
For the men's team, sophomore Ryan McGonigle led a trio of Eagles inside the top 32 in the 800m run with McGonigle taking 15th at 1:52.09 followed by senior Brendan Conniff (21st, 1:52.57) and junior Andrew Burchett (32nd, 1:53.23).
Additionally, sophomore Ethan Lu finished 14th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.75, freshmen Cooper Harwood and Ryan Wachter finished back-to-back in the 400m dash with times of 50.28 and 50.55, and in the 200m dash, classmate Lucas Mersky went for 22.36.
The Eagles will now turn their attention to the UAA Championships next weekend in Cleveland, Ohio with the conference meet taking place on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26.
