The Emory University track & field teams competed under the lights at the George C. Griffin Track across town as the Georgia Tech Invitational got underway in Atlanta.
Several of the Eagles' contingent made their way to Georgia Tech for the first day of the weekend invitational with notable performances being turned in from both teams.
On the men's side, senior Henry Brandstadter excelled in the 100m dash with his time of 10.52 to take fifth place in the field of 105 runners. Aditionally, Brandstadter turned in a mark of 6.92m in the long jump as he took 17th in the event.
Sophomore Ryan Van de Berghe paced a group of seven Eagles in the 1500m with his team-leading time of 3:49.90 as he placed 10th overall in the event. Dalton Lowery (38th, 3:56.54), Jack Mulhauser (50th, 3:58.71) and Amos Pres (54th, 3:59.33) joined him under the four-minute mark.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Emory posted a pair of top 10 finishes with freshmen Zach Glover (7th, 9:37.32) and Logan Clark (9:47.64) representing the Eagles in the 13-runner race.
Other top finishes by the Emory men on Friday came from senior Tyler Edwards in the hammer throw (47.96), sophomore Ethan Lu in the 110m hurdles (14.80) and senior Lucas Moskovitz in the 5000m (15:38.94).
In the women's events, the Eagles bolstered a small group on night one but registered several top times.
In 100m hurdles, freshman Kelsey Coley started the evening with a time of 14.22 as she finished in the 23rd position.
In the 1500m, senior Madison Tiaffay paced a trio of Eagles as she took 20th with a time of 4:32.97 followed by Elise Picard (52nd, 4:47.13) and senior Luna McCauley (75th, 4:52.61).
As the night progressed, sophomore Anna Jennings added a 20th place showing in the long jump at 5.39m. In the 3000m steeplechase, junior Cameron Gupta crossed in sixth place out of 17 runners at 10:51.54 followed by sophomore Davis Johnson in 11th at 11:12.44.
In the final event of the evening, sophomore Elizabeth Csikai placed eighth in the 5000m at 17:42.72 whereas rookie Ayla Cooke was 19th at 18:15.72.
The Eagles will be back at Georgia Tech on Saturday with several members of the team also headed to Sewanee, Tennessee for the Mountain Laurel Open.
