The Emory track and field team had a great first day at the Berry Field Day, earning four wins on the day over ten events.
The first win of the day came in the women's hammer throw as freshman
Abigail Roberts won the event for the second week in a row as she threw for 53.32m. In the men's 400m hurdles,
Sebastian Kou led the field with a time of 53.72 seconds. In the distance events, Junior
Payton Fleming got the win in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:41.82 while her classmate
Cameron Gupta won the women's 5000m with a time of 17:49.80.
The men's side of the field competition started with the hammer throw where junior
Tyler Edwards came in sixth place with a 48.10m mark. Behind him, sophomore
Ari Klasky threw for 44.44m to take tenth while his classmate
Riley Schwimmer came in 18
th with a 36.52m mark.
In the triple jump, a trio of Eagles placed in the top five as sophomore
Jason Bright led the team with a 13.86m jump to land in third. Freshmen
Marco Souchet and
Jacob Kim rounded out the top five, coming in fourth and fifth with marks of 13.57m and 13.59m respectively.
On the track side, freshman
Noah Chang came in behind Kou in the 400m hurdles with a 57.60 second finish to take sixth. Senior
Jason Huang finished it off for the Eagles with a time of 1:03.24 to finish in 12
th.
In the 1500, a group of Eagles finished in the top ten as
Nikhil Makker led the team with an eighth-place finish at 4:06.04. Freshmen
Michael Versaci and
Jack Muhlhauser came in ninth and tenth with times of 4:06.80 and 4:06.97.
Fabio Halter also placed in the top 15, finishing in 14
th place at 4:09.18.
Ending the day in the 5000m, senior
Lucas Moskovitz finished in second place at 15:05.83. Junior
Kirin Karver came in behind him, coming in fifth at 15:10.97.
Korben Lewis and
Parker Carrus also finished in the top 20, coming in 13
th and 17
th respectively.
On the women's side of the field competition,
Caroline Henry followed Roberts in the hammer throw as she threw for 49.64m to take second.
Janelle Bobb and
Lia Cardwell also finished in the top 15 with marks over 37m to take 12
th and 14
th.
In the triple jump,
Elsa Bildtsen came in fifth at 10.87m while
Mimi Rhee came in eighth at 10.70m.
Maeve Hurly rounded out the top ten, taking tenth with a 10.27m mark.
The track side of the competition began with the 400m hurdles where freshman
Megan Taylor came in second with a time of 1:05.06. Sophomores
Sophia Deeney and
Ryleigh O'Donnell came in eighth and ninth with times of 1:09.09 and 1:10.29 respectively.
In the 1500m, senior
Luna McCauley came in behind Fleming with a time of 4:46.11 to claim second place. Freshman
Zoe Dichter came in tenth with a time of 5:03.03 while her classmate
Ines Lemee rounded out the event for the Eagles in 16
th place with a time of 5:17.03.
The first day of competition concluded with the 5000m where junior
Elise Picard finished in third behind Gupta with a time of 18:16.55. Freshman
Ella Werkman and sophomore
Arden Gray finished in seventh and eighth, coming in after the 18:34 mark. Junior
Morgan Cox also placed in the top 15, taking 12
th with a time of 18:54.09.
The Eagles will be back for day two tomorrow, with the first event beginning at 9:00 a.m.
