The Emory Track and Field team concluded competition at the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet Saturday afternoon, garnering 33 top ten placements on the final day. It was also senior day as the Eagles celebrated their 15 seniors after the meet.Â
The day was highlighted by a trio of wins from
Ryan McGonigle,
Jackie Chapman and
Kelsey Coley. McGonigle won the men's 800m, running a 1:53.16 to take first in the event while Chapman won the women's discus with a 45.41m mark and Coley won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.57 seconds.
Beginning the day with the men's field events, sophomore
Ari Klasky threw for 46.26m in discus to claim third place in the event. Junior
Rohan Vasandani also placed in the top 25 with his 35.40m throw.
In the long jump, four Eagles placed in the top 15 as sophomore
Jason Bright finished third with a 6.76m effort while
Marco Souchet took sixth with a 6.61m jump. Behind him was
Sam Gouvalaris, coming in 11
th with a 6.41 mark and
Branson Adams rounded out the top 15 Eagles with a 6.32 jump to land in 15
th.
Shot put was up next and Klasky found himself another third-place finish, throwing for 16.32m. Vasandani also placed in the top 15, taking 13
th with 12.93m effort.
Moving over to the track side of the men's competition, the Emory 4x100 relay team of
Blake Jackson,
Lucas Mersky,
Noah Chang and
Henry Brandstadter earned fifth place with a time of 41.87.
The 1500 saw five freshmen in the top 20, with
Jack Mulhauser leading the team as he placed second with a time of 4:00.50.
Amos Pres came in next at 4:02.95 to take fifth while
Michael Versaci came in ninth with a time of 4:04.89. Rounding out the top 20 for the Eagles was
Fabio Halter and
Shane Larkin who came in over the 4:07 mark to take 12
th and 19
th respectively.
In the men's 400, rookie
Ryan Wachter was the top Eagle, finishing 17
th with a time of 50.36.
In the 800,
Ryan Van de Berghe came in behind McGonigle with a time of 1:53.65 to take fifth. Junior
Andrew Burchett rounded out the top ten for the Eagles as he finished at 1:54.76 to place eighth.
Ben Olvey represented the Eagles in the 110m hurdles final, running a 14.95 to place third.
In the 100m finals, Brandstadter wrapped up the men's side of competition with a fifth place finish at 10.76.
The women's competition began with the shot put and
Jeanette Hydukovich led the team with an 11.80m effort to take seventh place. Behind her were freshmen
Caroline Henry with an 11.31m mark to claim 11
th and
Jackie Chapman who went for 11.05m to end in 13
th. Sophomore
Janelle Bobb also placed in the top 15, taking 15
th with a 10.57m mark.
In the long jump, sophomore
Anna Jennings led the Eagles, coming in fourth with a 5.41m performance. Behind her was junior
Dijaye Carpenter who came in sixth with a 5.39m jump and
Mimi Rhee who landed in 11
th with a 5.19m mark. Junior
Elsa Bildtsen rounded out the top 15 for the Eagles with a 5.05m jump to place 15
th.
Behind Chapman in discus, Roberts took sixth place with a 43.20m throw while Henry finished in eighth with a 37.71m effort.
In pole vault, sophomores
Erin Makhanian and
Emerson Sobich competed for the Eagles, taking third and 12
th with a 3.50m and 3.05m mark respectively.
The track side of the women's competition began with the 3000 and saw two Eagles place in the top ten. Junior
Cameron Gupta led the team with a 10:28.81 to take second while
Ella Werkman finished in sixth with a time of 10:56.89.
In the 4x100 relay, the Emory squad of
Kelsey Coley,
Amaya Grant,
Anna Jennings and
Laura Jablonover came in second with a time of 47.70.
The 1500 saw three Eagles place in the top 20, with freshman
Zoe Dichter finishing eighth with a 5:04.47. Behind her was classmate
Luciana Ambrogio who took tenth with a time of 5:11.58. Finishing out the race for the Eagles was sophomore
Sophia Powell who came in 13
th with a time of 5:11.58.
In the 400, Jalloh and Grant both placed in the top ten, coming in over the 56 second mark to take third and sixth respectively.
The event ended with the 800 and senior
Madison Tiaffay led the team, coming in second place with a time of 2:14.92 A trio of Eagles came in next as
Payton Sullivan,
Payton Fleming and
Sarah Nixon placed 5-7 after coming in just over the 2:15 mark. Freshman
Zoe Norman rounded out the top ten for the Eagles with a time of 2:19.68 to take tenth.
The Eagles will be back at the WPEC next Saturday for the Dooley Elite meet.
