#1 Women's Golf Finishes in First Place on Day 1 of Jekyll Island Collegiate

The #1 Emory women's golf team had a strong start to the Jekyll Island Collegiate on Friday, shooting a team total 295 (+7) to end the day in first place out of 24 teams.

Freshman Xinyi Zheng is currently leading the field, shooting a 68 (-4) to lead by two strokes going into day two. She shot a career-high two eagles on the round along with five birdies and bogeys respectively.

Zimo Li came in next in a three-way tie for sixth with a 74 (+2) on the day. The sophomore had a consistent opening round, making par on 12 of the 18 holes with two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.

Junior Carys Code also found a spot in the top ten, coming in ninth after shooting a 75 (+3) on the day. She delivered three bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey to wrap up the first round.

Esther Jung finished next, finishing the first round in 29th place. The junior shot a 78 (+6) on the day, recording seven bogeys, three birdies and a double bogey to land in the top 30 going into round two.

Rounding things out for the Eagles is Jida Chiravachredej as she put up a 79 (+7) to end the day. She shot eight bogeys and a birdie in her first round to finish in 40th place going into day two.

The Eagles will start round two in the afternoon tomorrow, with Zheng starting things off with the first tee time at 1:05 p.m.
