Emory's track and field team dominated day two at the Centre College Invitational, with both teams taking first place as the men put up 180 points and the women earned 199 points to secure both team wins.
The meet was highlighted by
Steven Ditelberg's win in the men's pole vault where he broke his own program record, earning a 4.70m mark to surpass his previous record of 4.67m that he set one year ago to the day. He now holds the top three marks in program history. The Eagles saw nine first place wins on the day, including two from junior
Payton Fleming as she won the 800m and the mile run.
Beginning with the women's track events with the 60m hurdles, rookie
Campbell Fennell started things strong with a second-place finish after crossing the finish at the 9.40 mark. Classmate
Megan Taylor came in .21 seconds later, placing fourth with a time of 9.61.
Fellow freshman
Laura Jablonover also found herself in the top three, taking third place in the 60m dash with her time of 7.97 seconds. The freshman also found success in the 200m, taking second after a 25.85 second effort. Rookie
Kwilai Karto also placed in the top five in the 200m, claiming fourth place with a time of 26.92.
The Eagles found their first win of the day in the 400m as sophomore
Aaliyah Jalloh earned her PR with a winning time of 57.67 seconds. Classmate
Amaya Grant followed suit, coming in third place with a time of 58.66. Karto found her second top ten placement of the day in the 400 as well, taking ninth with a 1:03 finish.
Fleming earned another first-place win for the Eagles in the 800m, earning the win with her time of 2:19.57. Rookie
Zoe Norman came in milliseconds later, taking second place after clocking in at 2:19.93 to earn her PR. The Eagles rounded out the top five with strong performances from junior
Hannah Riley and sophomore
Ryleigh O'Donnell as they took fourth and fifth place and O'Donnell earned her PR, finishing just after the 2:25 mark.
The wins kept coming in for the Eagles as junior
Elizabeth Csikai claimed first place in the 3000m with a time of 10:23.69.
Davis Johnson came in quickly after, earning second with a 10:31.60 finish. Rounding out the top five for Emory in the 3000m was fellow upperclassmen
Cameron Gupta who came in fifth place with a final time of 10:43.90.
Arden Gray and
Morgan Cox also found themselves in the top ten, with both athletes earning PRs as they took seventh and tenth overall respectively.
Finishing off the women's track events was the one-mile run, where Fleming earned her second first-place win of the meet with her time of 5:07.85. Junior
Elise Picard also found her way to the podium, taking third place and running her PR with a 5:16.19 finish. Rookie
Ayla Cooke finished things off for the Eagles, earning fourth place with a time of 5:23.79. Â
In the women's field events, sophomore
Jeanette Hydukovich led the Eagles with a 12.18m mark to take fifth place in the shot put. Freshman
Caroline Henry also earned a spot in the top ten, claiming eighth place with a mark of 11.55m.
Moving into the high jump, Taylor took second place and earned her PR with a 1.57m mark. Classmate
Gabrielle An earned the same mark, clearing it on her third attempt to solidify her sixth-place spot.
In the pole vault, sophomore
Erin Makhanian led the Eagles once again with her mark of 3.65m to claim third place. Fellow sophomore
Emerson Sobich followed that with a 3.10m mark to find her spot in the top ten.
Three Eagles found the top five in the long jump, with sophomore
Anna Jennings taking second place with a 5.62m jump to earn her PR. Junior
Dijaye Carpenter also earned her PR, claiming third place with a 5.40m mark. Classmate
Elsa Bildtsen rounded out the top five for the Eagles, taking fifth place with a 5.18m jump.
In the weight throw, Henry claimed the top spot for the Eagles as she came in fourth place and threw her PR with a 15.18m throw.
Wrapping up the women's competition, Carpenter earned the fifth win of the day for the Eagles with a 10.97m jump, also earning her PR. Bildtsen also claimed a podium spot, taking third with her 10.67m mark. Rookie
Maeve Hurly rounded out the top five for the Eagles, earning fourth place with a 10.32m jump.
Moving over to the men's track competition and starting with the 60m hurdles, sophomore
Ben Olvey started with a bang as he took second with an 8.49 finish. Freshman
Noah Chang also claimed a top five spot, earning fourth with an 8.60 second effort.
In the 60m dash, rookie
Blake Jackson was the top Eagle as he ran a 7.13 to take 11
th place and earn his PR.
Senior
Henry Brandstadter led the team in the 200m, taking second place with a 22.58 second performance. Rookie
Lucas Mersky followed quickly behind, coming in at 22.70 to earn his third-place spot. Rounding out the top five for the Eagles was freshman
Rohan Dharmarajan as he took seventh with a 23.15m showing.
All of Emory's finishers in the 400m found themselves in the top ten, with Jackson leading the team once again as he took third with a 51.03 second finish. Mersky came in next, earning fifth with a time of 51.44 seconds. Classmate
Cooper Harwood finished things out for the Eagles, claiming sixth with his time of 51.63.
In the 600m, newcomer
Eli Rosen took fourth place with a 1:27.69 effort while classmate
Michael Miller took 6
th with a 1:28 finish, with both athletes earning PRs with their performances.
The Eagles found their first win on the men's side in the 800m as
Ryan McGonigle finished at 1:55.49 to earn first place. Senior
Brendan Conniff finished .2 seconds later to take second while junior
Andrew Burchett helped the Eagles sweep the podium with his 1:57.45 finish to come in third.
The 3000m saw three top ten finishes from the Eagles as sophomore
Dalton Lowery led the pack with his 8:46.41 finish. Freshmen
Reid Dalley and
Korben Lewis also found themselves in the top ten, taking eighth and tenth respectively as they crossed the finish just after the 8:50 mark.
In the mile run,
John Urciuoli led the Eagles as he took second with a 4:13.43 finish.
Ryan Van de Berghe was close behind, finishing less than two seconds later to take third place.
To round out the men's track events, the 4x400 relay team took the crown as they won with an impressive 3:30.8 effort.
Ending the meet with the men's field events,
Ari Klasky got things started with a 17.29m effort to take third place in the weight throw. The sophomore found the podium again in the shot put, earning second with a 15.91m mark.
Brandstandter continued his dominance in the long jump, earning another first place win for the Eagles with his 7.35m jump. Rookie
Branson Adams also made his way into the top ten, claiming seventh with a 6.60m jump.
Freshman
Jacob Kim held it down for the Eagles in the triple jump and the high jump, earning third and sixth place in his respective disciplines.
The Eagles will be back on the track next weekend as they head to Columbia, SC for the USC Invite.
